Transmission cable tunnel

Singapore Power is constructing two cross-island transmission cable tunnels to ensure that households and businesses continue to enjoy reliable power supply. The tunnels are 60 meters underground with diameters of 6 m respectively 9 m and provide a long-term solution to the on going renewal of the power cable grid infrastructure in Singapore. A high-pressure water mist system will be installed by Deluge to protect the power supply. The pipe construction includes 27000 nozzles and is being connected with the FIPE system.

Pipes of 3 inches diameter are used, in order to sustain the pressure over a distance of 37 km in total. Compared to the alternatives in connecting three inch pipes the FIPE system leads to substantial time savings and a high process security of the installation. The installation equipment is highly mobile and therefore very convenient to use especially in areas that are difficult to access such as underground.
